COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
BATTERY FILLER, GRAVITY
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description for all federal agencies.
1. SCOPE
1.1 Scope. This commercial item description (CID) covers battery fillers intended for dispensing distilled water to the cells of storage batteries.
2. CLASSIFICATION
2.1 Classification. The battery filler shall be of the following sizes, as specified (see 7.1).
Size 1 – 2 quart (1.89 L) minimum capacity
Size 2 – 4 quart (3.78 L) minimum capacity
3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
3.1 Materials. The battery filler shall be molded from a natural or synthetic rubber or a thermoplastic material.
3.2 Construction. The battery filler shall consist of an enclosed container with an integral lifting handle and pouring spout at the top. The spout shall have a removable control valve assembly which limits the addition of water to the battery cells to prevent overlifting. The empty filler shall have a weight no greater than 4 lb (1.81 kg).
3.3 Marking. The battery filler shall be indelibly marked or stamped with the manufacturer’s name or trademark.
3.4 Measurement system. The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as the standard. The metric values stated in parentheses are for informational purposes only.
3.5 Metric products. Products manufactured to metric dimensions will be considered on an equal basis with those manufactured using inch-pound units, providing they fall within the tolerance specified and all other requirements of this document are met.
